Help us improve lives at Banksia
At Banksia Villages we are committed to supporting quality of life, dignity, choice and independence for older people. Banksia is a stand-alone, not for profit, charitable organisation, and whilst any financial surplus is used in line with our Mission, Vision and Values, there are a number of ways your or your loved ones can contribute to Banksia and help us make a difference to the lives of our residents. These include:
- leaving a gift in your will (making a bequest)
- making a donation in memory of a loved one
- making a donation at any time
- volunteering your time (click here for more information)
By supporting Banksia in these ways, you will be improving well-being and quality of life for our aged care residents through a wide range of extra-special programs. Whilst government funding provides for the care needs of our residents to be met, additional funding is needed to implement all the ”little extras” that really make a difference to residents’ lives.
Please note that Banksia Villages is a stand alone, not for profit, charitable organisation, with Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) status. This means that your gift is tax deductible.
Bring joy to older people through these programs:
A selection of future programs is shown below, and we encourage you to review them and specify which of these you would like to support Alternatively, we are happy to discuss other ideas for using your donation or bequest. Call our management team on 02 4471 6091 for a confidential discussion.
Bus Stop in our Sensory Garden
Target: $10,000
Current Balance: $0
A recent study showed that a (non-operational) bus stop can be a point of interest which helps entice people living with dementia to engage with the garden or the outdoors. In particular, the study demonstrated a reduction in falls as a result of providing meaningful activities in the outdoor area. Some residents like to pass time undertaking activities familiar to them, and waiting at a bus stop fills this need and may facilitate social interaction with others using the seating there. Banksia plans to build a bus stop similar to the one pictured, if funds can be raised.
Shop/Kiosk
Target: $5,000
Current Balance: $0
Provision of an accessible shopping experience will promote resident independence and social engagement and provide an opportunity for residents to purchase little extras, such as chocolate or magazines. Banksia hopes to create a mobile shopping experience for residents with regular opening hours and a small stock of goods, similar to the one pictured at Resthaven, Marion.
New Bus
Target: $150,000
Current Balance: $0
Banksia Lodge Activities team have access to an 8 seater (plus 1 wheelchair space) minibus to facilitate resident outings and social engagements. The bus is 18 years old in 2024. Currently the Banksia team are dreaming of improving wellbeing by being able to offer more of our residents to join us on outings. Research shows that participation in regular and meaningful social interactions can improve health and wellbeing for older people, and that participation in social activities can be effective in reducing agitation. A new bus would make a huge difference to the lives of Banksia Lodge residents.
Technology Resource Hub (include Magic Table)
Target: $30,000
Current Balance: $0
Some Banksia Lodge residents enjoy learning new technologies, such as using IPads to FaceTime or Zoom with family members or playing computer games. To bring extra joy and to encourage our residents and their continuous learning journey, we plan to create a Technology Resource Hub where residents can access and learn to use new technology. One specific piece of technology that has been proven to stimulate physical activity, reduce sadness and breakthrough the apathy sometimes felt by those living with dementia is the Tovertafel (Magic Table). This valuable tool would be a welcome addition to Banksia Lodge.
We encourage you to discuss your wishes with us as we would love to ensure that your valued gift is used on a project that matches your preference. Please make an appointment with one of our management team by calling 02 4471 6091.
