Banksia Lodge Broulee Extension Opening May 2016

Federal Member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis MP, with Banksia Village Chairman Stephen Palywoda and CEO Graham Wise, at the official opening of the Banksia Lodge Extension

Ann Sudmalis MP, Member for Gilmore, joined community heads, directors, staff, residents and guests totalling more than 150 people to officially open the $9m Banksia Lodge Extension on Thursday 19 May 2016.

Ms Sudmalis noted what a wonderful achievement the new wing represented for Banksia, the community and the region. Ms Sudmalis went on to note that the Banksia business model was something that should be held up as an example for others to follow, adding that it is unique for a single site, not-for-profit provider to offer such a comprehensive range of services and facilities.

Board Chairman Stephen Palywoda spoke of the challenges involved in bringing the project to reality, including early difficulties securing finance from the banks. Mr Palywoda told the gathering that, ultimately, Banksia was able to self-fund the $9m project with the assistance of a $2m zero real interest loan facility provided by the Commonwealth Government. Mr Palywoda congratulated past directors and management for their vision for the company and spoke of the satisfaction in achieving that vision. However, Mr Palywoda advised the gathering that the Board and management were already deep into strategic planning activities to ensure a clear and well considered future for the company continues to be laid out.

The Banksia Lodge Extension consists of 30 en suite rooms, including a purpose built family friendly palliative care suite, new dining, laundry and common areas. The new building is architecturally designed and maximises the lovely surroundings, facilities and services that only Banksia can bring together in one location. New residents have already commenced moving into the new wing and Banksia is holding discussions with prospective new residents and their families daily.
